An app (Android and iOS) that logs acceleration, roll, pitch, yaw and top speed while underway, using the smartphone's IMU or a small optional external BLE sensor for greater accuracy. Helps trim the hull and compare different propellers with objective data, not by feel. Still to be developed: if distributed outside the Google Play Store, availability could be quicker than a store review timeline.
Without objective trim data (pitch, acceleration), trim adjustment stays empirical: it feels better, but you don't know how much or why.
On boating forums, propeller comparison is still done stopwatch-in-hand: 0-30 mph with one, then the other, judged from memory. An objective log removes the memory factor and differing conditions between the two tests.
The app closest to this idea on the market is iOS-only. Anyone with Android, or who wants an external sensor more accurate than a phone in a pocket, is left out.
Trim and acceleration change with load, sea state and conditions: without a logged history, you can't reliably compare one outing with the previous one.
A powerboat trim app already exists on the market (SmartTrim, iOS-only, phone IMU only). We're not inventing the category: we're improving it on two fronts where we have a real edge.
A smartphone's IMU in a pocket or on a helm isn't built for marine measurement. The optional external BLE sensor uses the same differential-quaternion inertial fusion patented on BoomAngle, built from the ground up for the marine environment.
On boating forums, propeller comparison is done with a stopwatch and an engine tachometer. A dedicated feature — multiple logs, side-by-side comparison — turns an informal habit into usable data.
Android and iOS together, not iOS only: broadens the reachable audience compared to the single direct competitor identified.
Not yet — it's the part of the line furthest along the development path. If distributed outside the Google Play Store (e.g. direct installation instead of a store listing), availability could be quicker than a store review timeline. If you're a boater, a propeller shop or a boatyard interested, write to us — it helps us prioritize the right features.
The goal is for the app to work from day one with just a smartphone. The external BLE sensor is designed as an option for those who want greater accuracy and repeatability, mounted fixed on the hull instead of held or carried in a pocket.
HullTrim is built specifically for planing powerboats (acceleration, hole-shot, propeller comparison): a different use case from SailSensor, which is dedicated to sailing. They share the underlying technology, not the final product.
Owners of RIBs, launches and runabouts who want to optimize trim; propeller resellers and workshops who today recommend the right pitch "by feel"; boating schools and charter operators who want objective data to show.

If you fit one of these profiles and want an objective way to measure trim and compare propellers, tell us your case: it helps us finalize HullTrim around real needs.
