KUKA: from CAM to deposition
CAM postprocessor, added seventh-axis slide and pellet extruder designed and built by Moxá. Slide and extruder managed through a proprietary bridge on CANopen X44.
Read the case →Many of the projects I've developed remain covered by non-disclosure agreements and can't be described in detail. The ones listed here are clients who agreed to be named — a sample, not the full list, of over 1000 projects across 40+ years of work.
Precision seed drill, fertilizer spreader, sub-surface chemical spraying machine, flow meter for surface soil-treatment machines, mulch-film welder, Bluetooth temperature sensors (with and without an app, one of the two with memory and GPS for work-history logging), a large-format 3D printer designed and built from scratch, and the organization of the entire in-house electrical/electronic department. A pilot project for an electric soil-tillage machine, designed for a circular farm.
Foil control for the SF15 foiling yacht: complete design of electronics, electrical systems and hydraulic component selection, interfacing with all onboard systems (NMEA2000, J1939, proprietary thruster protocols, Cummins engine controls, Raymarine instrumentation, autonomous steering).
SailSensorPro, the professional version of my SailSensor.
A long-range vehicle transit detection system built on LoRa technology.
Ongoing collaboration across several areas, with a focus on the marine sector.
A VISCA gateway over RS485 for managing remote cameras, applied to access control, welding and vehicle control.
Converting a railway bolt-tightening machine from a combustion engine to an electric drive.
A sensor for piston pumps, reading pressure, temperature, flow rate, pump speed and suction vacuum.
Cycle-time and stroke-measurement systems for railway and industrial applications: reaction-time measurement for ABS brake control valves on high-speed trains, cycle counting and control for pneumatic-cylinder fatigue testing, movement control with overload detection for electrically actuated platforms, a portable stroke-time meter, and a multi-voltage power supply for test rigs.
Retrofitting of machine tools, a robotic manipulator for part feeding on a grinding machine, and a pressure sensor for spool valves, later patented.
Retrofitting of a CNC glass milling/cutting machine.
On a KUKA robot: added a motorized slide, designed and integrated an extruder (electronics and interface software for the KRC5 controller), retrofitted a large-format gantry mill, and revised a CNC woodworking router.
Automation of a train for railway ballast treatment and analysis, Rome.
Updating and improving an app connected to a sensor for sports analysis in baseball, softball and golf. Ongoing collaboration.
Feasibility study for position sensors on the rear flaps of motorboats, integrated directly into the flap mechanics.
The energy-harvesting electronics for a vertical-axis nano wind turbine.
Consulting on multiple patents, including the Flying Antenna.
Feasibility analysis for a web-managed electronic wallet.
A glass-melting furnace, for an artist based in Bologna.
Before founding Moxá Design in 2012, I was first an employee and later a partner at Delin Elettronica, a software house in Modena still active today. During those years I worked on plant automation for some major names in Italian and international industry — not as a direct client, but as part of my role at the company.
Automation of pasta production machinery.
Automation of a detergent production plant.
Automation of bituminous-conglomerate (asphalt) production plants.
Automation of oil pumping stations, Florence.
Automation of machinery for manufacturing cylinders and keys.
Automation of sticker/trading-card packaging machinery and of a palletizer.
Automation of pick & place lines for fax machine production and of photocopier production lines.
Automation of cogeneration gas turbines, Imola.
Automation of the heating plant at the Carlo Poma hospital.
Automation of roller conveyor lines.
Automation of steel-cord winding lines for tires.
Automation of coffee-roasting plants, from green bean to packaging.
Automation of folding and packaging machinery for industrial laundry textiles.
Automation of several automatic machines for electronic component assembly and for manufacturing flat wound batteries for mobile phones.
Automation of the museum, Turin.
Fiber-optic ring for synchronizing the electrical substations of the cyclotron.
An access control system for an underground facility.
